We do have a few suggestions to help you with sales and safety.
- Avoid setting up your sale on side streets. According to other Yard Sale events, most buyers don't like to leave the main road.
- Select a safe location with plenty of parking. Get permission from a church, business, or other commercial space with a parking lot, located right on Highway 199 and set up your sales area there. (Note: It's the Berries, in Kerby, will have spaces for rent.)
- Recruit your neighbors -- The more stuff that's sitting in view of the road, the more likely a dedicated yard sale aficionado will stop and browse for a while.
- Use BIG, brightly-colored signs with arrows pointing to your sale.
- Clearly mark your driveway and parking area.
- Set up canopies for shade and have a few chairs or a picnic table to welcome your customers. Large pitchers of free ice water and cups set out on the table will keep people shopping.
- Know where the nearest public restroom is available. (Yet another good reason to set up in a business' parking lot!)
- Keep most of your money out of sight. Only keep enough cash readily available to make change.
- Don't accept large bills without checking for the watermark and safety strip.
- Don't accept checks or traveler's checks.
